The real vote of 2012

In the absence of a conservative win this past election season, it's easy to become jaded and think that the votes were not fair. However, never fear because the voting can still continue. How??? You may be asking yourself. Well no the vote is not for the POTUS, the Lord and voters have already spoken on that account. The real vote for 2012 is in regards to a contest that the Navy Exchange is holding. I have a couple friends that have entered it, but I'm choosing to post this one in voting for it because one, it can easily be make to be GF with Betty Crocker's GF Yellow Cake mix and two, Jenn (my friend that has entered) is planning on doing some gift giving with her prize, which for me makes a potential win all that much sweeter. What's at stake you ask? A mixer from the Navy Exchange! There's stiff competition to be had.

The Bible talks a lot about giving. The verse that pops into my head while I compose this is Luke 6:38.

~ Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. ~
Luke 6:38

In case you don't know, that was the Lord speaking those words. And in getting to know Jenn, she's one of the biggest (not literally because she's pregnant) givers that I know. She has such a generous spirit about her. So click on the link below to vote for her Cinnamon Butter Cake, and help spread the giving spirit this holiday season. O and you also get the recipe when you click on the link, seriously giving! You give a vote and she gives you a new recipe. The giving circle continues.

The best part it that it's a simple popular vote too, no electoral college to contend with Praise the Lord! So you know that you're vote will be counted, no matter where you live.

Good Luck Jenn!!!

Time to Vote

A few weeks ago I was asked to join a letter campaign and help endorse one of our local island candidates so I did, and it was recently printed in our local news paper. Here it is...

It's important that candidates listen to their constituents and it's a quality that I look for in who will get my support. November 2nd is right around the corner, I hope you use your vote wisely.

Sign Waving

In case you haven't picked up on the themes from my latest blog posts, LTIA has renewed a political fervor in me and as such I've decided to get involved with one of the local mid-term election campaigns.

Her name is Kelly Emerson and she's running for Island County Commissioner for Dist #3. Here's the link to her blog.

Today was out first sign waving effort. I live in an area where we do mail in ballots and so making sure that we get out there as people are going home and will receive their ballots is part of the plan. Who can miss the bright yellow:)

It was a beautiful sunny day, perfect for sign waving, thing is though that I was the only one out there with the signs. Yup, just yours truly. There were supposed to be more of us, I had people RSVP, but something must have gotten lost in translation. But it's hard to miss someone waving a bright yellow sign on the corner of the only major 2 lane HWY on the Island, in front of the major National Park. I'm just sayin'

In any case, I'll be out there again for the next couple weeks as long as we're in primary season. I hope that I get a couple more bodies next week. It really matters that people volunteer. The only way that officials can "hear" your voice is by letting them know what you stand for and becoming active. Otherwise that's how people become doormats, letting people dictate to them how their lives should be run and what they should and shouldn't care about. I'm also helping out with a couple of fund raisers for Barbra Bailey, our WA state representative in Olympia, and I have stepped up to try and be the secretary for the Central Whidbey Republican Women. It's gonna be a long election season, but it will be worth it when we have fiscally responsible and sound representatives leading our state.

The Caucus

In my previous post I made mention of the fact that I might be attending my county's Caucus this past weekend. Well it took place on Saturday and yours truly did decide to go. However, it wasn't quite how I imagined it to be. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was definitely eye opening as to the lack of political participation that goes on in my community, and many others as well. It's no wonder why America is in the condition that it is right now.

Caucusing, in case you've never partaken of the event, is really very easy. Although intimidating the first time up. Let's face it people I have a lot going on and my interest in all things political has been waning lately so I could have felt more prepared if I had the time, but still it's not anything that if you hold to your party's, and communities interests that you can't figure out. Basically you show up, sit with your precinct and discuss the issues that you want to have addressed and how you'll pick a candidate to back in the upcoming election. That's it in a nutshell.

So what happened? Well I ended up being the ONLY person from my precinct that showed up. Now I know I live in a small town, and a liberal state, but really people that was a little sad. So here I am a political novice, albeit "enthusiast" and the only one in her precinct to show up. . . "Coupeville we have a problem."

So I got to decide the plank points that we stand for and want to have brought before the Island County delegates in April. Oh yeah, because I was the only one that showed I got the added enjoyment of getting to be a delegate too. And because BBC was represented well there are 5 of us that will be going as delegates there's me (obviously), Tim, Bro. Dolan, Sherri, and Vicki. Levi will be a delegate as well, but he votes in a different county so he can't be counted for us. However, some of the precincts are small and had we had many more members present BBC could have easily had more than half of the delegates at the county convention. Why do I say all this? Because the principles and values that America was founded on are being lost and even ignored because those with religious and, more importantly, Biblical principles are not getting involved. Whether you like it or not America was founded by men who believed in the Bible and had values that held to the fairness, betterment, and justice of society and apathy is the cancer that will cause us to loose this country and the values that have been its foundation for hundreds of years. That's not a political slight at the opposition that's just fact. People need to get involved otherwise those in positions of power will run rank and file over the rest because they see that people don't care. They will set their agenda and there will be nothing that we can do about it. I can't speak for the rest of you, but I'm happy to have lived in this country and value the freedoms that I've been allowed to have just because I was born here. Ladies and gentlemen know this, if you don't show up you don't get a say in what happens. And if you'll pardon the pun on GI Joe "Showing is half the battle."

Politics

Here is Paul Curtman, who I know personally. He is running for State Representative in MO 105th District. I know he walks his talk and if you watch the below videos you'll see that Paul understands the Constitution better than some of those that have been elected. All of you that can vote in MO should exercise it wisely. November 2010 those that live in Missouri should get to the polls and vote...for Paul. You'll have a solid advocate with Paul.

This weekend I'm going to caucus for the first time. I was "exhorted" to do so by a couple of friends at church. Actually I'm not going kicking and screaming, unless Coupeville ends up on the South end of the Island. I know I'm not in a certain district that another friend is in, but it would at least be nice to see some familiar faces when I go to the caucus. The Political games are afoot.

Poll Results

Back at the beginning of the month I posted a poll asking when people liked to celebrate their birthday's. The choices were on the day, the Saturday after, or all week long. Well, well, well the mighty voters have spoken and the power of the poll says that there is a 3 way tie between the choices. Interesting. I usually like a clearly defined winner, but it's interesting to see that people are devided. Ultimately I think the importance or what makes it special is that it is celebrated. After all it is the day that the Lord gave you to be born on.

I have a new poll up

As of today I have exactly 2 weeks until I turn 30. . .

Growing up we almost always celebrated our birthday's on the actual day. I don't think I have any memories of us having birthday parties on a Saturday or Friday, unless it actually was that day. Maybe my 10th birthday is an exception because it was a slumber party, but that's about it. My Dad was a stickler about that and now looking back I appreciate it. Sure my brother and I were the only kids having a party at 4 o'clock on a Tuesday afternoon, but it reinforced the fact that the day was special, even if it was just because I was born. That was the day that God chose to have me come into the world, and it deserves to be recognized as such. Now that I'm older, I'm pretty much a stickler for that tradition as well and will carry it on with my own kids one day. But this is what prompts my new poll. I want to know what others think about when they celebrate their own special day.

Vote away guys, it will be up until the end of May!

Only one day left

There's only one day left to vote one what my followers want to be called. Right now Carolyn's Crew is leading, and Wonderful Readers is in second. So once the votes are tallied then I'll rename my followers. Get your vote in before 8am tomorrow!

What do you want to be called?

I want to change the name of my "Followers" gadget, but I'm not sure what to change it to so I thought I'd let you decide by putting up a poll. I'll leave it up for a week. The winning vote gets the prize title. Of course I'm also open to suggestions.

The votes are in

Here are the results from my polls:

All 8 people that voted for my recipe name felt very strongly that my recipe should be named "Crunchy Chicken Casserole". Your vote counts so I will oblige you, plus that's the name that I like best too.

And although it's been a while since I took my hair poll down. The results basically said that people wanted me to stay blonde. Which is fine by me because when the roots grow back, my hair would probably be red. And with the undertones of my skin red hair does not look good on me.

Thanks for your votes. I'll post another poll when I find something interesting.

Name my recipe

In my last blog I mentioned that my friend renamed my recipe, which is fine, but I want to get your feed back on it so I posted a poll. Let me know what you think the recipe should be named and I'll name on it based on the results. I'm leaving it up until the end of the year (New Year, new recipe), so you have a while (and you can vote more than once, just in case you're really passionate about what it should be called).

Continue to vote on my hair color too! Right now the blonds are ahead. My friend Dave told me on Sunday, pretty emphatically, that I SHOULD NOT dye it brown. Normally I'm not looking for other peoples opinions, but this is a pretty big deal, and Dave is always good about giving me feed back if I'm making a fashion/cosmetic disaster. Plus it's always nice to have the opinion of a guy, every now and then, especially since I'm on my own. So it was appreciated.

More Biden one liners

OK, the first one I posted was funny and generally Biden is always good for a laugh. However, the esteemed VP candidate has done it again except this time it's not so funny and no one (thanks to the wonderful mainstream media) is covering it.

This past weekend Joe Biden was in Seattle to stump for our incumbent Governor and raise more money for Obama (because for some reason the party thinks he doesn't have enough). Anyway, someone in the audience had a microphone and was recording his speech when he said that within 6 mo. of Obama becoming president that there would be an international crisis. There was no follow up, no explaination, and like I said no one is calling him on it! GRRR! It's one thing to put your foot in your mouth when telling a man that's confined to a wheel chair to stand up. But it's a completely different thing to offer up irresponsible rhetoric in such a public fashion.

If Palin or McCain had said this you know it would have been the lead story on every news network, but there hasn't even been a blip of anything on the radar where he's concerned. Now I do know, and I think we all do, that a new President is always tested. Something always comes up for them, but the way it was offered up was completely irreponsible. Why has the media been more scrutinising to Joe "the plumber" then these to people wanting to lead our country?! In my ever humble opinion he needs to answer up and be held accountable. Not that any one in any kind of power reads my blog, but I was just perturbed when I heard this on my radio show this afternoon.

The link can be found if you click on the word speech.

I want to vote for Joe the Plumber

We need more sincere and Godly men like Joe to be in power in this country. That all I have to say about that.

Politics

I usually stay out of this arena, in general, as a topic of conversation. Not really because I'm affraid of offending anyone (my conversations with my step mom do tend to get interesting). It's mostly due to the fact that I just don't have any time to keep up with the issues actively. I know where I stand on certain things, and so I try to get as close to that with a candidate as I can (even if they're not generally part of "my team"). That being said the campaign ads in the hotly contested states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida will probably be seeing ads like the one that I'm posting up here. I post it so that those that don't live in those states can still get a better view of what our candidates stand for. I'm pretty sure it's not an actual campaign ad, just something that a friend, of a friend, of a friend wanted to create for they're own personal say and post it on You Tube. It's very powerful and you have to watch it the whole time in order to get it's full effect.
