July pic day 25

Today's pic is supposed to be of a heart.

This one was kinda easy because I've been holding onto this rock for 7 years now. I found it out at Bowman Bay here on the island. It was my Dad's first trip up to the island, and just after dinner time. He took a risk crossing the bridge as he doesn't like heights, but the sunset and time was well worth it. The boys, my younger brothers, were trying to skip stones and walking down the rocky beach and it was just he & I sitting enjoying the water splashing up on the rocks. I forget what we were really talking about, but what I do remember was he looked over at me and told me that he was "proud of the person that I had become." Then I looked down and saw this rock. It was meant to be mine. I like to think that my heavenly father put it there just for me...just for that time.

July pic challenge day 19

Thursday was day 19 and this pic was to take a pic of a pet. YAY!!! I love taking pics of Riley & this one I got to take with my new smart phone using Instagram. If you don't have this app yet what are you waiting for?!

Riley James
Yes...my dog has a middle name
He also goes by...
RJ
Stinker dog
Fluffer dog
Good boy dog
and whatever else I come up with on the fly

He's great company, and in his eye (and only his eyes) I can do no wrong. Now who doesn't want a pal like that. I'm so happy that I didn't give up on him when training was challenging and that Nicki found him for me at the shelter. I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world!

July photo day 13

Today's photo is of something open. So I chose the sky. We've been having a pretty intense set of thunder storms today and I was driving near the water I saw the sky open for the last bit of sunset. I love thunder storms so this is great! But the sky opening was pretty amazing too.

Will the Circle Be Unbroken

I took this video when I was in Seattle at Pike Place Market last weekend with friends. These guys were amazing. All acapella, and able to work through all the noise of the market downtown. Some street groups like this only sing a couple of gospel songs, but these guys were singing them all afternoon. I enjoyed it and I hope you do too.

Today's photo is about texture

Photo for July 10

Today is a picture of my favorite color. Anyone that knows me knows that it is RED. I like all bright colors, but red always makes me feel happy and like I'm putting my best foot forward with those I meet. It's a color that is synonymous with confidence, determination and love. If you want to know more about colors and their meanings click on this link. So the picture today is of...

My ring

It was my Grandmas ring originally. My aunt sent it to me for my 16th birthday. And I've worn it nearly every day since. The only time I didn't wear it on a regular basis was when I had to get the stone re-faceted. It actually fell out when I was standing watch on the NAS II gate in Sigonella. I wasn't even paying attention and my partner that I was out there with, who had just complemented me on it, noticed that it was gone. My heart dropped, but without even thinking about it he and I hit the deck (ground for you civilian types), to look for it. It was a Sunday morning so there wasn't a lot of traffic, but considering we were in a heightened threatcon level our on looking watch commanders were less than thrilled, and let us know as much by trying to hollar at us over our radios, but that hardly mattered to us at the time. He was a real gentleman about it, looking over the entire area that we were watching. I mean it's dark red, against black asphalt not the easiest thing to see so it took a bit. Finally, he emerged from the asphalt with the red stone and I could breathe a sigh of relief. After we were back to full functionality, one of our watch commanders came out to see what was up, he was one of the more mellow ones, and once he found out what we were doing he just smirked & said that it was a good save. LOL!!! It definitely was because it was the only thing that I was able to wear during that time that made me feel feminine. Trust me there's nothing fetching about a woman in camouflage and it's hard enough for a woman in the military to feel feminine with all those boys around, but wearing the ring was a reminder to me that I was still a girl. That may sound funny to some, but until you've lived it you can't ever really understand. It really is the little things. It now has a scratch in the stone but that doesn't matter because the value of the ring is in the sentiment, not in any perceived value. I have other rings too, but this one is just me all the way...well...at least until I get an engagement ring one day;).

July photo day 9

Day 9 is of something big. The water? Yes the cove is big, but that's not it. The hole in the sky? Beautiful it is, but that's not it either. How about the one who made the both? Today's photo of something big is of...

July photo day 8

Today's photo is lunch. It may not look like much, but it's super healthy for you. A serving of this amazing little grain, a 1/2c. cooked, has 6 grams of fiber & 6 grams of protein. It's called quinoa, pronounced keen-wa, and if you haven't tried it yet you absolutely should. Gone are the days of choosing between rice or potatoes. Now you have a new side to love. Enjoy!

Quinoa Salad

Red Quiona (I used 1c. dry = 2c. cooked)
White Beans (Canned or Soaked overnight, whichever you prefer)
Diced Cucumber, Diced Red Onion & Sun dried Tomatoes
Salt, Pepper, EVOO & Lemon Juice to taste

Those are just the ingredients I used. Have fun & choose your own if you want.

July photos days 6 and 7

Yesterdays photo was supposed to be a chair. I was out with friends in Seattle & I didn't see a chair, but this particular seat looked mighty inviting after an afternoon of walking around Pikes Place...

Day 6 - Seattle Bench

Today, day 7 was a picture of a garden. I chose an older one from my time in Sicily...that was 10 years ago now! I saw it while walking with friends in Taromina & it was so beautifully striking. Sadly the picture just doesn't do it any justice.

July photo day 5

Today's photo was about things on the floor, well I keep my place pretty spick & span. And I'm sure you don't want to see my folded laundry...errr, check that rather I don't want to show you my folded laundry. So here are my...

Running shoes

You've seen them before, but that's what I got on the floor. Anyway, you'll be happy to hear that they are currently being used to train for a 5K that I've decided to participate in on August 11. It's my first so don't expect some fantastic results, or post. But really the fantastic part of it is that I'm working on challenging myself in this area. Currently I'm still not a fan of running, but I hope that will change as I continue.

July photo a day #3 &4

Playing catch up on yesterday's photos & today's photo as well.

July 3rd was a pic of the best part of your day. I had a hard time deciding so I'm putting in more than one.

July days...Photos of my life this month

Boy oh boy life gets busy. Friends have returned “home”, school is back in full swing, ministries need my attention etc. A girl can’t do it all. However, I also haven’t been inspired to write. I mean I have plenty of ideas to share, but my thoughts have been so jarred and random that I haven’t fully wanted to commit to writing anything substantial. So instead I’ve decided to do a photo a day in July.

Yeah, I should have started yesterday, but that was self-portrait day & I’m just not good at those. I like taking photos with other people in them. So maybe I’ll make up for that one later, or not…it’s my challenge anyway.

However, today was busy day so here is a pic of my desk at work. I was working on writing up a vessel to keep track of in our database.
