#19 on my list, Read 15 new books (#3)

Sophies Heart has been the latest book in my list of 15 to read, and though I'm not normally a reader of "Christian Romance" it was nice to read a different type of book. It was sweet and sentimental and a great "chick book" to read. All thanks goes to Kali for lending it to me.

The story is about a woman named Sophie who is from Czechoslovakia, circa 1989 during the cold war, and how her faith leads her to the US where she, by chance, becomes a nanny for a family where the wife and mother has died in a car crash. The family is of course paralized by grief at first meeting, but slowly they all start to accept and love Sophie, especially the patriarch Alec Riley.

The book doesn't rely heavily on the love story from the beginning, the love doesn't even begin to blossom between the 2 characters until almost 300 pages into it. Instead it relies on the characters and their respective story lines and weaves them together in a way that tugs on the heart of all those that have faced challenges and hope for true love. Lori Wick (the author) also has done a good job in helping to articulate the power of the Bible's gospel message within the pages of this story.

Like I said earlier this is not a regular genre that I like to read, however, after the past school quarter reading nothing except for chapters on the history of Western Civilization from the 1700's to today as well as a book on art and it's role in the humanities it was nice to read something that I didn't have to analyze.

Grades are in!!!

Thank you to all of you who were praying for me during this quarter of classes. And for your efforts you are rewarded with knowing that I got a BIG fat A in both history and my art class!!! I can't even believe it, but I'm not going to question it. I also got an A on my final paper, which I'm sure had something to do with it. Researching and writing about the holocaust and how photography helped to shape peoples views on human right, is not exactly a page turner, but it got the job done! YAY!!! I'm so happy:)

Waiting. . .

Waiting for my teacher to read my final paper and assignments is killing me. Personally I think my final paper is great, but my classmates thought so too so I uess it's not just me. It just stinks waiting. I'm not patient for these things at all. I've calculated my grades so many time that I think it's crossing over into my OCD. Right now, unless I totally jacked things up I could be looking at getting a B, which would be great for keeping my GPA up. I just need my teachers to get it together and read my assignments and paper already! GRRR!!! Once I find out I'll let you all know too.

How does Jesus smell?

Last week was the camp for the kids at our church. I wasn't able to go and be a counselor (gotta love the duty that bills call for), but Kali was and she shared this photo with me, taken from the bunk where she was sleeping. Of couse it spurned my curiosity and I wanted see if the Bible said anything to that effect. God never disapoints. Read all of Psalm 45, found below, but pay special attention to verse 8.

Psalm 45

1. My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
2. Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
3. Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.
4. And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.
5. Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.
6. Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.
7. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
8. All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.
9. Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.
10. Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house;
11. So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.
12. And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.
13. The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.
14. She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.
15. With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace.
16. Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.
17. I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever

YAY!!! My camera is fixed

I've been really bummed lately with all that has gone on, with the SPG conference and stuff and not being able to take pics because my camera was acting up. For whatever reason, when I was in St. Louis, my camera stopped working. Well last night I cam across a much better batch of Durecell batteries that I had and changed them out with the old ones in my camera. And whatdaya know, voila, my camera is working again!!! I'm very happy:) Even though I still have camera envy over Kali's Sony Cybershot, I'm glad that I got mine to work again. $400 (including accessories) is not what I want to pay for the new camera that I want. So stay tuned for new pics coming your way.
